Overview Of Services

Now entering our second decade, Nisus was the first and remains the only firm of its kind to recognize that special qualities and services are needed to assist sophisticated professionals in effecting desirable career transitions. Professionals at all levels engage Nisus to help them develop and evaluate strategic alternatives and implement solutions designed to enhance their prospects for continued achievement and distinction.

For successful professionals, no deal is more important than one affecting their own career advancement. However, despite a commitment to providing their own clients with the best representation available, similarly sophisticated representation has never been available for career-related activities. The services Nisus provides are most beneficial to those who appreciate and value the role of sophisticated representation in their access to and evaluation of strategic career alternatives. In all cases, Nisus is engaged and remunerated by its individual professional client. This unique arrangement ensures the independence and flexibility indispensable to providing solutions and options that are unencumbered by customary recruitment policies, and can be a great advantage when negotiating and structuring complex compensation packages. Employers prefer candidates whose searches are intelligently structured, conducted and negotiated, and to be able to attract such professionals without the host of disincentives created by the typical headhunting scenario is an added benefit and attraction uniquely enjoyed by Nisus clients.

Because we firmly believe that it is better to be the hunter than the hunted, we work proactively, entering the market on our clients' behalf to discover, exploit, or create situations best suited to their unique expertise and objectives. We seek to position our clients in opportunities for which they alone are best qualified, and don't try to fit square pegs into round holes. By operating this way, we virtually eliminate our clients competition, so they don't find themselves losing opportunities to "other better qualified candidates."

Timing Is Everything

Nisus knows that timing can be the most crucial aspect of any career-related transaction. Depending upon our client's objectives and our analysis of various factors, we do not hesitate to recommend that they wait, sometimes for an extended period, for the most opportune moment to explore the market. The intervening time is used productively to assist our client in strengthening their profile and desirability both internally with their current firm and clients, and externally in their industry and with their peers, prospective clients, and competitors. This time is also used to gather intelligence and explore the strategic plans and inter-dynamics of targets they may ultimately pursue.

Alternatively, we are often called on to assist clients in making transitions under very challenging circumstances, such as when they have been passed over for promotion or are facing termination through outplacement or staff reduction due to the downsizing or merger of their group or firm, buyouts or retirement. In these instances, time is of the essence, and decisions of great import must be made quickly to preserve the integrity and maintain the perception of our client's competitiveness. In such cases, we can advise our client in negotiating and structuring exit or severance packages, and then provide assistance with their relocation efforts.

Objective And Responsible Counsel

The cornerstone of the Nisus practice is providing objective and responsible counsel to sophisticated professionals. To this end we will, under certain circumstances, advise clients to reject offers or abandon certain efforts. This may occur when parties have mutually unrealistic expectations or when, based on our monitoring and analysis of market conditions, we recognize changes in control or other factors that might render the prospective employer or opportunity unstable or unacceptably risky to our client's long-term expectations and goals. In some cases, the best move may be no move at all.
